After weeks of searching, police divers have returned to the river where Nicola Bulley was found dead in an apparent attempt to recover a missing item, according to an expert. On January 27 while out walking her dog, Nicola Bulley vanished. Three weeks later, her body was discovered in a river. The coroner, in advance of her inquest, requested the return of police divers to the scene last week. Forensic pathologist Dr. Richard Shepherd, who has worked on high-profile cases like the Stephen Lawrence case and the Harold Shipman trial, told the Mirror that he believes the police are missing an item. Dr. Shepherd expressed doubt that their current investigation would yield results that would change the underlying cause of death.After Nicola's body was discovered, it would have been sent to the morgue for an official post-mortem, during which doctors would have tested tissue samples for signs of drug and alcohol use. On Monday, June 26th, at County Hall in Preston, an inquest into her death will be held. He went on to say, "They must have a reason to do it though — my guess is there is something like an artefact of some sort that they are trying to make sure to find."I get the impression they want to rule out any possibility that whatever it is they can't find is still in the river.They seem to be on a mission of some kind.After all this attention on social media, the last thing police want is for anything to go missing and then be found by chance. He continued, "I can't see what they are doing there in terms of the cause of death especially in something as changing as the river. I doubt that even if I went back to the house where it was shut, I would be able to locate anything to prevent death.
